"Preacher is no hired killer. When a wagon train is brutally ambushed on the Sante Fe Trail though, he can't say no to the St. Louis businessman willing to pay him for justice. It's not the stolen gold that's convinced Preacher to take the job And it's not the missing body of one of the wagon train's crew, a prime suspect who may have plotted the ambush and taken off with the gold. No, it's the suspect's lovely fiance, Alita Montez. She believes her boyfriend is innocent -- and has run off to find him. Preacher can't abide the idea of a young woman alone on the Sante Fe Trail. If the Comanche don't get her, the coyotes will. And Preacher can't have that. But to save the girl and get the gold, the legendary mountain man will have to forge a path that's as twisted as a nest of rattlers, face off with trigger-happy kidnappers, backstabbers, and bounty-hunters -- and match wits with Styles Mallory, the biggest baddest frontiersman of them all ..."--Amazon.com.… (mehr)

Title: Preacher’s Carnage (First Mountain Man #27)
Author: William W Johnstone and J. A. Johnstone
Pages: 320
Year: 2020
Publisher: Pinnacle
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
The character Preacher has been a long-standing favorite with Johnstone fans for many years. Now, once again, the newest adventure for Preacher puts him smack dab in the middle of a fight. In Preacher’s Carnage, Preacher is hired to locate a missing wagon train that was carrying gold and whether a man named Toby Harper was involved in the robbery. Preacher determines to not only locate the missing money but also locate a young woman named Alita who is engaged to Toby. Alita’s father is in business with the man who hires Preacher. With Dog and Horse, Preacher sets out on the cold trail. It doesn’t take too long before Preacher tracks down the money and girl but what he doesn’t expect to get involved with is the villains who plan to sell guns to an evil chief by Comancheros.
In typical Preacher fashion, he tackles one problem at a time, taking risks to save lives and complete the job he was hired to do. Preacher also runs into a group of men who are led by a man named Hayes; they are known as Texas Rangers. In an epic battle scene in the Bandera Pass, readers will be on the edge of their seat as they see the odds definitely not favoring the Texans or Preacher! The ending of the book has a surprise and leaves the door open for more adventures that have Preacher fighting on the side of right and making friends along the way. If you are interested in learning more about Preacher, who used to be known as Arthur, read the other exciting books in the series that are available in print, audio and e-book format. This novel is one of the best western action-adventure stories sure to keep people turning pages and cheering!
