(Although I can't see why) Abigay, Jade's mother has the clearest thinking of anyone in this novel. Jade should have listened to her mama! I can understand the anger Greg's adult children and soon to be ex feel towards Jade, but the vitriol thrown by Greg's daughter Violet is really over the top. Jade takes it - I wouldn't and I don't understand why Greg lets it happen. Greg's brain injury opens up some interesting avenues for the plot to go, as well as a choice of suspects. Kudos to Holahan for the chapters written from Greg's point of view - they are quite frightening. This part of the book kept my attention. And I was ready for the resolution....but. Yes, there's a 'but' for me. The ending Holahan has chosen just doesn't sit well with me. I'm not going to provide spoilers, but I found the ending to be unrealistic, far fetched and disappointing. This one ended up being just an okay read for me. The 'thriller' descriptor fell short for this reader. This book started out with a big bang. It definitely got my attention. From there I was hooked and could not stop reading. While, I still read this at a very fast pace, I found the overall vibe of the story kind of predictable. Yet, this book is still a good read. One that I don't regret reading. Can we speak about all the players in the story. You have Jade, Greg, his family, and the detectives. I had mixed feelings when it came to Jade and Greg. The rest of the characters I did not much care for. Greg's family was really bitter towards Jade thus making me off put by their sour attitudes. In regards, to the detectives, they seemed to not be very prominent in the story. More like third level characters. I was not a fan of Jade in the beginning but as I got to learn more about her, I slowly moved to her side. Greg was the opposite. I was for him in the beginning but not in the end. Her Three Lives by Cate Holahan was a thrilling read that had me hooked from page one. Having read and enjoyed One Little Secret a few years ago by this same author I was curious about this one. As the book starts off Jade Thompson and her fiancé Greg are getting ready to go out one evening. Greg opens his front door thinking there is a package delivery and he ends up the victim of a brutal attack that leaves him nearly dead with a brain injury. As Greg begins the healing process with the support of his ex-wife, his two children and Jade, the question of who tried to kill him is at the forefront. The detectives assigned to the case are leaving no stone unturned. They start looking into Jade’s line of work as a social influencer and a blogger hoping to find any clues in some of the comments on her blog posts. As the story unfolded I started to dislike Greg more and more. Jade can take of herself financially but Greg is wealthy and makes millions on commission on certain accounts so Jade definitely has motive to have him murdered. These two are both hiding some secrets. Author Cate Holahan continues to pen thrilling reads with twists and turns that have you guessing until the very end. As the book went on I had no idea who attacked Greg until the author revealed it. It made sense and the story was wrapped up nicely and even culminated in a bittersweet ending. I recommend Her Three Lives if you enjoy suspenseful thrillers centered around families. Disclaimer: This review is my honest opinion. I did not receive any kind of compensation for reading and reviewing this book. I received a copy of Her Three Lives by Cate Holahan from Meryl Moss Media in exchange for my honest thoughts. https://bookwormnai.wordpress.com/2021/04/13/her-three-lives-by-cate-holahan/ keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
"Greg Hamlin's kids think he's having a mid-life crisis. With his youngest off to college, the wealthy architect has divorced his wife and begun designing a new life with Jade, a struggling lifestyle blogger whose Bronx-upbringing and Caribbean roots seem an odd match for a suburban-Connecticut dad. But before Greg's second act can truly start, a savage home invasion leaves him housebound with a traumatic brain injury and glued to the live feeds from his omnipresent security cameras. The more Greg watches, the less safe he feels. Soon, he and his kids suspect his fiance of hiding something. Greg begins monitoring Jade's every move, watching her on the cameras, tracking her phone, and digging into her past. Jade is keeping secrets. But do they relate to her involvement in the break-in? Or, is Greg's battered brain playing tricks, pushing him to terrorize the only person who truly loves him? Is his life in danger? Or are Greg and his family the ultimate threat?"-- Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Jade receives threatening notes, but doesn't want to tell Greg, so she lies through omission. Greg begins to suspect that Jade is a golddigger, fueled by stories told him by his daughter, Violet.
As their distrust of each other threatens their relationship, the truth finally comes out - to devastating consequences.
This book was just OK. I understand that a traumatic brain injury could cause issues - but Greg's reaction to Jade became a bit out of control, in my opinion. ( )
