Instead of the derision and ridicule Monique expects, Sasha is quite supportive and empathetic, not to mention very pragmatic. This realization leads to a wild night where they, plus Reggie, go on a madcap quest to buy an item that might help Monique solve her problem, the one preventing her from having sex. That night is also the beginning of her realization regarding exactly who everyone in her life really is and how much fun she's missed in her life. Following that growing awareness is affirming and satisfying. This is another excellent choice for school and public libraries because it addresses self-image, peer pressure, a medical condition girls may have, but never heard of, and plenty of funny moments.
