I received an advanced review copy of this book via LT's Member Giveaway.

Although you would want to carry along a mushroom identification guide or tag along with an expert in the woods, as the author himself notes, this is a nice introductory book for those wanting to add some mushrooms into their cooking or health supplementation routine. Many people in my own life have commented that they find mushroom foraging scary, and I think this simple book is a nice way to introduce some common mushrooms, especially as several do not have any toxic lookalikes. Also appreciate the simple approach to introducing the reader to the medicinal benefits of mushroom as well as cooking, drying, and preserving strategies.
I really enjoyed the more specific harvesting and preserving instructions for Reishi and Chaga and had hoped for the same with the Lion's Mane and Turkey Tail, but I did find some additional cooking information further along in the "preparing" section. There are also seven recipes shared, including turkey tail coffee and chaga tea. I found it unusual to include the FAQs, especially as the answers are not what I'd think of for beginner use, but I personally appreciate the specific extraction information and I do think it's good for beginners to become familiar with these methods.
