I was surprised how much I liked this book. It’s about the people inside and outside an open marriage and how each one of them navigates the different emotions that come with that dynamic. The characters were so well written that I can honestly say I really liked them and felt I knew them. I would enjoy reading more books by this author. ( )

I had always thought of an open marriage as inviting a third person into it so it was interesting to hear a point of view about both married people having separate relationships outside of their open marriage and the complications that can come with that. Some of those dynamics were interesting but the book often dragged because every conversation took so long with a word-for-word from each character. There seemed to be a lot of character building in referencing their interests like music and artists that was fun at first but then became so much filler it slowed down the plot progression. I understand adding some human flaws but the characters were not given enough likable qualities to want to root for any of them. ( )

I don't normally read romance novels, but I thought this one might interest me more than others I've tried because it explores ethical non-monogamy. However, the characters just didn't hold my attention and at times were frustratingly dim witted. I read a little less than half the book and decided not to continue. The language of the novel flows nicely, and there are some lovely descriptions. The sex scenes are well written. However, the characters don't ring true to me; or, perhaps, they do ring true in that they seem not to understand how the human heart works. I am not convinced it's possible to have healthy, ethical, romantic, non-monogamous relationships, and I wanted this book to challenge that assumption. Unfortunately, it did not. The complications that arise in the plot don't seem like obstacles to overcome but simply the consequences of the decisions that the characters themselves have made. I would be willing to read a different book by the same author because he is certainly talented, but not on this subject or with these characters.

I enjoyed I am my Beloveds. I appreciated a relationship based story from a male perspective. Bens wife Shira manages her personal grief by pursuing an open marriage. Ben is not keen and the author deftly portrays his conflicting emotions. Shira has her own difficulties once Ben has another relationship and often this shows up as hypocritical. The theme of love and its consequences- both positive and negative gives good for thought. All culminating in A satisfying ending. ( )

This story was very interesting. The storyline was very engaging, and definitely keeps the reader wanting more. When I first started reading the book, I was unsure how I would like it because "open marriage" wasn't something I was knowledgable about. However, I couldn't put the book down! Bring on a sequel! ( )
