It stars Cliff, an omega unicorn shifter, and Everest, an Alpha bear shifter. This is told in first person from both Cliff and Everest’s povs. 3.5 Stars I have not read any of the previous books in this series before this one, and I had no trouble following along. This could be read as a stand-alone. Since the blurb hasn’t been added to this book page yet, I’ll give a short rundown. Cliff is an entomologist with a job at a university. He’s hoping for tenure, but the grant for his project ended and so did his job. There aren’t any other prospects for an entomologist in town, but he needs to find a job to support him and his daughter, Felicity. Cliff decides to submit his name to a mail order mate site and ends up with a match. Everest is that match. He ended up submitting his info when he was drunk and forgot he did it. But he and Cliff start chatting and skyping etc., and they decide Cliff should move in with Everest, partly because there’s the opportunity for Cliff to work with the forestry division in setting up a program on insects. Therefore, Cliff would have a job when he arrived. Due to bad cellphone and internet connection, Everest doesn’t find out Cliff has a daughter until they both arrive. The plot is about Everest, Cliff, and Felicity learning to make a family and Everest and Cliff becoming a couple. I’ll review the cover first. I don’t think it fits. Everest is supposed to be this big rugged guy, he’s a bear and neither of the models on the cover look like they could be Everest. I also think instead of the baby image, the cover should have showed a little girl, because Felicity was a main part of the story. Babies don’t show up until the very end. So, this cover doesn’t fit the book. The pace of this story was fine. I didn’t find any particularly slow parts to it. I liked the personalities of Cliff and Everest. They were well suited to each other. It wasn’t instant love or instant lust. They got to know each other before Cliff moved to town, they grew more attracted to each other when they met. I liked that Cliff, even though an omega, was smart and had a job. He wasn’t just looking for a mate to support him and have babies with. Although, when he did sign up on the site, he knew what he was getting into. And when he was living with Everest, it was evident that the relationship with Everest started out like a mail-order bride situation that they both agreed on. The authors did a good job of not making Felicity an annoying mini-adult. She remained a child and didn’t take over the story. There was still time to grow Cliff and Everest’s romance. As usual however, the authors did a poor job of creating distinct voices for the men. They sounded exactly the same and if it wasn’t for the indicators at the beginning of each chapter and the action around them, it would’ve been difficult to tell who was speaking. I wish the authors tried harder at making distinct voices. Almost all of their Alpha and omega characters have the same voice from book to book. I realize this version I read was an ARC, but I hope their betas or editor caught a very large mistake in chapter two before the book was published. Cliff talks about him and his wife both being unicorns, when the story is based on the fact that his wife was a tiger and Felicity is half unicorn, half tiger. Overall, this was a fluffy, fast read. Cliff and Everest were suited to each other, and Felicity acted like a normal child. It was a pleasant way to spend the time reading, but The Uncertain Unicorn doesn’t stand out in any exceptional way. I give this story 3 Stars. I think readers will enjoy this as a simple, quick read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

I completely understand how Everest missed the bit about Felicity and how both he and Cliff problem solved together. I loved watching them learn about being a family and how Felicity adapted to the situation. I loved the little bit where Everest had the same name as a cartoon dog that Felicity loved, it was adorable. Overall this story was super sweet but had some good steamy bits to even it out.
