This is quite fascinating, complex, too. A wounded girl meets an equally wounded boy, both of then able to see and interact with ghosts on an island that's alive in its own way. The longer Addie is there, the more enmeshed with the island and its ghosts she becomes. The twists and turns in the story make it come alive and keep the reader guessing until the end. An epilogue helps pot things in perspective. ( )

I read an ARC of this book and will be buying it when it comes out. I could not put this book down.
This horror story on a tropical island was atmospheric and mysterious with an underlying current of dread flowing through every page.

I liked both main characters. Adeline is a freediver, recovering from a near death experience and Billy, the son of the island keepers. Their friendship and ghost hunting drive the story. While the romance felt very annoying and cliche to me, it actually tied in to the plot so I’ll let it pass.
However, it was the setting and location that truly made this story. I could feel the summer wind through the palm leaves and the waves on the sand, and when the island turns violent and eerie, I loved the setting even more. Vines growing from drops of blood, sinkholes leading to a maze of underwater caves and a shipwrecked 18th century ghost made a highly original story.
