"Part sun fae, part blood fae, all abomination. After a life spent dodging slurs, threats, and assassination attempts, Lane Callaghan gave her past the one finger salute and ditched her former fae home for good. The detective agency she and her sisters run on the edge of Las Vegas continues to limp along, with Lane doing more debt collecting and intimidating than investigating, but anything to pay the bills. Between working for low-lifes to bring down even lower-lifes, eating cheesy poofs by the bucket, and flirting with the criminally attractive bartender where she conducts business, life is good. That ends when a routine job goes sideways leaving Lane with a sack full of stolen sun shards--the source of sun fae power. Without the shards, the sun fae face giving up their magic completely, or risk death if they use their power. As far as Lane's concerned, good riddance, considering they would rather see her dead--except her father and adopted sister are sun fae. Lane must choose to return home to save the fae bastards that almost killed her...or let them burn."--Back cover.… (mehr)

This was fantastic! This book has so much going for it including great characters, plenty of action, an interesting magic-filled world, and a bit of romance. I was hooked by the story early on and hated to set the book aside. I am so glad that I decided to give this book a try!

Lane is a hybrid, half sun fae and half moon fae. This is not looked upon favorably by others so she left her fae home to start a detective agency near Las Vegas. Along with her sisters, she takes on a variety of jobs to get by. Things get a little crazy when she comes across a bag of stolen sun shards during the course of a job and the stakes end up being higher than she could have ever imagined. She must sacrifice everything to save the home and people that she left behind.

I thought that this book was a whole lot of fun. Lane was a fantastic character and I loved seeing her work through one situation after another. There were a lot of discoveries made during the course of this story and I enjoyed all of the surprises that popped up along the way. The mystery kept me guessing and there was enough action to keep me glued to the pages. I liked Teddy and thought that he was a great match for Lane. They already know each other when the book begins but their relationship definitely makes some progress during this story.

I would not hesitate to recommend this book to others. I thought that this was a very solid start to a promising series that I am excited about. I cannot wait to see what adventure Lane and her sisters will tackle next!

I received a review copy of this book from the author. ( )

Bad Girls Drink Blood By S.L Choi.
Lane Callaghan and her sisters-by-choice Mae and Y’sindra, run a PI business, doing retrievals and investigations mostly in the borderlands between the Fae world and ours. When the queen of the Fae asks her to retrieve some immensely important stones that have been stolen, they’re tested to the limits. Fast, action-packed, and snarky, this was pretty good. I liked the sisters and their relationship, and Lane’s love interest, bartender Teddy, who turns out to be more than he seems. Although I could have lived without him calling her “sweet fangs” so often. Very cringe-y. There was extensive use of the usual paranormal tropes: kick-ass magic heroine, sexy hunk, borderlands, etc., but the package was attractive and it was well written. I would read more from this author. Reviewed from an e-book copy received via the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program in return for an honest review.

I received this book through LibraryThing's Early Reviewers.

I really enjoyed this book where the worlds of human, fae and other beings are as intertwined as the heroine's genetics. It is fast-paced, action packed and with enough snark from the heroine to fit in with the urban fantasy trope. There are several varieties of fae, fairies, shifters and whatever the main shifter's faithful minion is as well as at least one druid. There is plenty of conflict but (unusually) a strong family dynamic and a heroine who actually has sensible moments. Sensible heroines seem in short supply so the lack of long-term emotional drama due to easily corrected misconceptions and untruths was greatly appreciated. It's great to find a new voice in this packed field and I look forward to reading the other books in the series. ( )

Bad Girls Drink Blood is a fun ride full of tribes of fairies and other magical creatures. Lane, who is the voice of this book, is the daughter of a master Wizard father and a healer mother. She and her two adopted sisters, Mae, a sun fairy, and Y’sindra, a snow fairy, are in a private investigation business together. Mae is the soft-spoken one who can diffuse any fight. Y’sindra probably started the fight with her sharp potty-mouth and snowballs. Lane is the fight finisher, the muscle. She is a hybrid of several species, a condition which brings her shame, but not enough to stay hidden. Her muscles, fangs and talons are the tools of the warrior. There’s just one problem with this bad girl who is supposed to drink blood. She’s allergic. Her wounds have to be specially tended by her mother, who has a special concoction she uses to simulate the blood.

Throw into the mix the local hangout bar and attractive bartender, Teddy, plus other magical locations including Las Vegas, and the stage is set. Bad guys might turn out to be good guys, or they might just be bad guys. Some critical stones have been stolen, and Lane is just the critter to find them and get them back, with the help, or the intrusion, of her sisters and Teddy, who has some secrets of his own.

And Shakespeare thought that HE had three weird sisters! ( )

Lane is a hybrid fae, looked down upon by the pure blood fae. She and her sisters have left the realm of the fae and live in the Interlands, near Las Vegas. They are just managing to make their detective agency pay the bills. During one job to collect gambling debts, Lane comes into possession of a bag of stolen sun shards, pieces of the Sun Fae’s living Sun Stones which they use to channel their magic. She soon learns that the Sun Stones have been stolen. Lane has no love for the Fae and wouldn’t normally care about their loss, but he sister and father are both Sun Fae and without a supply of the shards their magic will soon kill them.
With the help of her sisters, and a distractingly handsome bar owner named Teddy, Lane has to find the thieves and return the Sun Stones before all the Sun Fae suffer.
This book is the first book in the Blood Fae Druid urban fantasy series. Lane is a strong character with some adolescent characteristics. She is impulsive and sometimes lets her emotions get the better of her. She grows during the book and there are indications she has more to learn about who she is and what she can do in future books. The book is fast-paced with lots of action and danger. I enjoyed the relationship between Lane and her sisters, and her growing relationship with Teddy. Some of the world building was a bit confusing. The history of the Sun, Moon and Blood Fae was delivered in bits and pieces and some of it was unclear. Hopefully future books will fill in some of the holes.

There is some violence and descriptions of blood and gore, but not excessive, and some mild sexual content. ( )
