"When she was just five years old, Melissa Braxton watched her father take her mother's life. Separated from her sister, Lola, at that time, Melissa grew up with a strong desire to help those stuck in abusive relationships. It's why she became a family therapist and opened a domestic abuse shelter. After losing a leg to a gunshot wound in the line of duty, Phil Osbourne has felt like a man without a purpose--until he hears Melissa's story and decides to use his Special Forces contacts to track down her missing sister. He knows what he discovers will break Melissa's heart. What he doesn't realize is that helping the women reunite will bring the cartel down on them like the Category 5 hurricane striking Miami.Bruised yet not quite broken, Melissa and Phil battle the storm and the cartel, calling on strength they didn't know they had to escape death, save the innocent, and--just maybe--find healing in each other's arms"--… (mehr)

Although the third book in Hallee Bridgeman's Love and Honor series, Honor's Refuge can easily be read as a stand-alone book. And what a book! It reels you in from the first page with characters who leave a lasting impression. The compelling and likable characters are portrayed well. The story is full of twists and turns and the tension in some of the scenes is definitely edge-of-the-seat. Family, friends, and faith are all woven together with a romance that is full of angst and tender moments. Readers who love mystery and suspense will not want to miss reading Honor's Refuge. I won a complimentary copy of the book from LibraryThing and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own. ( )

Honor’s Refuge by Hallee Bridgeman is the third book in her Love & Honor series. Melissa Braxton runs a domestic abuse shelter. Phil Osbourne uses his contacts to locate Melissa’s long-lost sister. He had no idea what kind of terror his compassionate act was going to unleash. This was a very intense story. The action was non-stop. Something new was always just around the corner.

I received this book from the publisher for my honest review. ( )

I loved this novel filled with romance , suspense, and healing. I loved Melissa and Phil. I loved that both of these characters find healing and love. I love the action in the story. I could not put this book down. I also really liked Lola. I received a copy of this book from the publisher for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will. ( )

Honor's Refuge is the third book in the Love & Honor series, and I was captivated from the very first paragraph. This book is the emotionally charged story of two people who've endured so many traumas in their lives. Phil Osbourne is a Special Forces soldier who lost his leg two years ago and is still trying to accept this loss. Melissa Braxton knows the tragedy of abuse after witnessing her father beating her mother so badly that she later died. As a trained therapist she is capable of helping Phil, but can she protect her heart if he rejects her efforts?

I just recently discovered this author, and this book is definitely proof of her excellent writing ability! Physical abuse, drug cartels, murder, and death are some of the heavy topics featured in this story but Bridgeman buffers them with a strong message of hope and faith. I recommend Honor's Refuge to all who enjoy Christian romantic suspense.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Revell Reads. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts. ( )

Title: Honor’s Refuge (Love and Honor #3)
Author: Hallee Bridgeman
Pages: 352
Year: 2022
Publisher: Revell
My rating is 4 out of 5 stars.
Phil Osbourne is a former Special Forces serviceman who has been medically discharged from the armed forces due to an injury sustained on a mission. He has training and schooling to be a doctor, but due to his former addiction to pain medication he doesn’t feel he is worthy to resume the career of a doctor. He works as an EMT. He has received calls in the past for survivors of domestic abuse. That is how he met Melissa Braxton. She runs a shelter for survivors of abuse. He wants a relationship with Melissa but thinks she deserves a whole man, one without his past sins.
Melissa Braxton watched her pregnant mother be beaten to death by her father at a very young age. That led to her career choice to run a shelter for abuse survivors. The location of the shelter is kept secret as much as possible for the safety of all at the shelter. Melissa wants to be more than friends with Phil. They eat a meal together twice a week and sit together at church but that is as far as things have progressed for over a year. She believes Phil to be a good, honest, worthy man. Why can’t he see himself as she sees him? Can there be a future for them, or should she move on?
There is more to the story than just a romance. There is another angle to the story that provides action, suspense, grief and more. It was interesting to see how the characters reacted and worked through the various situations. The writing is so good that I found myself halfway through the book very quickly…and then kept going! All three books in the series are well worth the time spent reading. They will provide plenty of entertainment and would make a great Christmas gift.
Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility. ( )
