Once again, Jaime Jo Wright has impressed me with her prose, her ability to draw the reader into the story, and the wonderful characters living their lives with compassion and drama. Jaime has many different ideas and scenarios (spiritualism, Christianity, post-partum depression, early medicine, and familial relationships) happening but she discusses them all from both sides and with great empathy. Her discussions about God and His interest in our daily lives are terrific. The story is unpredictable and engaging. I highly recommend it. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. Good suspenseful dual-time mystery with time periods of contemporary and early 20th century. Both main characters in the respective time settings are strong characters who are relatable. The mystery held my interest from beginning to end. The author deals with difficult subjects of miscarriage, depression and seances in a Christian setting and does it compassionately and realistically. Having enjoyed this book and other books from this author, I look forward to reading more from Ms. Wright. I won a copy of the book from LibraryThing and was not required to write a positive review. The opinions are my own. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. Withers Farm and the surrounding community has seen its' share of heartache. In 1910, two girls are murdered, and another attacked by an unknown assailant. In 1982, a young woman goes missing after moving to the small Michigan town. In 2022, a young couple desiring a new lease on life experiences ghostly visitations, discover strange artifacts, and find themselves in danger after purchasing Withers Farm. How do these strange and seemingly individual events have any connection? Will the string of bad luck ever end for Withers Farm? This was a very interesting book! This is my 2nd book by this author and it did not disappoint! Thank you LibraryThing for the Early Reviewers copy of this wonderful book! In 1910, Perlietta is a young woman who lives with her mother. Her mother claims she can talk to and see the dead and holds seances. Perlietta practices her own brand of holistic medicine, which is a thorn in the side of the local doctor. The body of a local young woman is found in a nearby cornfield. She was murdered due to several knife wounds. Soon thereafter, her younger sister is murdered. What is happening in this town? Why are these young women being killed? In the present, Molly and Trent have just purchased the old Withers farmhouse. Trent is in 7th heaven, but Molly thinks the house will be a lot of work to maintain/remodel. The house has a creepy vibe and the part of the foundation in the basement is laid with discarded tombstones. Molly is depressed, having had several miscarriages and still mourning her lost babies. Trent has grieved and is ready to move on with life. Their relationship has stagnated, and they are more polite strangers living together than husband and wife. Then, Trent discovers the body of a young woman, but he doesn’t tell anyone he knows the woman. Soon thereafter, Molly begins having visions of the dead woman. What is going on? True to form, Jaime Jo Wright pens an eerie tale that has two timelines, one in 1910 and the other is present day. One thing I didn’t like was the seances and professing to talk to the dead. I’m not comfortable reading about that. Just having it in the story made me ill at ease. I also didn’t connect with any of the characters, so I struggled getting into the story. I have read a lot of this author’s novels, so I was expecting an enjoyable read, but, for me, it wasn’t my cup of tea. Others might enjoy this type of story, but it wasn’t my favorite. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
In 1910, rural healer Perliett VanHilton is targeted by a superstitious killer and must rely on the local doctor and an intriguing newcomer for help. Over a century later, Molly Wasziak is pulled into a web of deception surrounding an old farmhouse. Will these women's voices be heard, or will time silence their truths forever?
