Mother of Pearl is a beautifully written story with a magical world! The world building is one of my favorite things about this book! The descriptions are vivid and absolutely beautiful! A seaside cottage to a castle in the mountains to caves filled with beautiful crystals and more! Valeri is a strong female character. She's strong, determined and willing to do whatever it takes for the ones she loves! The pace moves around a little but overall it's an entertaining story with a little bit of romance and with the ending I will definitely be looking out for the next book! Orphaned at a young age, Valeri lives with her sister Amelia in a small village near the sea. People say that the body of water is endless, and nobody ever returns to share what is located on the other side. While fishing one day, Valeri follows her instinct into the depths of the ocean despite a raging storm, attracted by a Mother of Pearl shell. Knocked unconscious, she awakens in an unknown country, far away from her village and her sister.

I really enjoyed discovering the world created by Blanka H. Madow and following the misadventures of Valeri, a human that found herself trapped in a world full of magic. As she learns more about this strange world, she also discovers that she may be more than just a powerless human, as she first thought.

The characters of Mother of Pearl are quite interesting : Valeri, a strong young woman that doesn’t believe in men’s worth … until she meets Prince Rulin. She is definitively a very capable character, but that also recognizes her own limits and faults, which I found very touching. I love her friendship with Ahn, a servant ,and Primo, the Prince's sister. I found it very fascinating how the villains in the story are not necessarily the ones we believe. Some characters hide their true goals very well, and good and bad can be sometimes very blurry.

I was really hooked by the story. I love everything in it from the atmosphere to the characters. Mother of Pearl is an exciting novel full of magic and mysteries. ( )
