Flash was a pony that had fallen between the cracks-too small for most to ride, even for a Hackney pony, and too feral to be shown. What he needed was a person as small as he was-who had the guts and the patience to give a wild pony a chance. Then along came a little girl with a sensitive soul and a big heart. Kyla Law was just nine years old when she met Flash, and neither of them could have anticipated that their partnership would make history. In an inspiring true story of family, faith, and perseverance, Kyla and Flash's relationship mirrors the journey we must all take in life: one of highs and lows, successes and failures-theirs just happens to be along a hundred-mile historic trail in the Sierra Nevada mountains-the setting for the most famous endurance race in the world. From the moment they met, to the moment they crossed the finish line, their tenacity exhibits pure spirit: the human spirit, the Holy Spirit, and the fire-in-the-soul kind of spirit that helps us climb mountain...… (mehr)

This book is a true story about an exciting event I was not previously aware of created to tax a horse and rider to their limits. It is held in the western United States. This is also a story about a young girl and her unique horse.

The Law family was a tight-knitted, family who loved animals and had several unusual "pets" and who consisted of a very loving father and mother, who created four children, with very different personalities. However, there were horses abiding there with personalities similar to a few of the individuals.

This author not only told the background story of the challenges and struggles they had made to get to the point of participating in this event, she told the background of the main horse character, but also, interviewed many key people who were a part of this grand venture. The book was never dragged out or boring. The insights of others added to the story content in places it could have become slow-moving. There were very minimal repetitions. The few repetitions were clearly intentional.

The characters were endearing and as real as those mentioned in print. The reader could almost feel he/she knew them.

The scenes were easily visualized as the author described them. The picture on the Book Cover and the additional photos added at the end of the book was phenomenal! The Title was perfect!

This was a very interesting, inspirational, and enlightening book!

This book was gifted me with n pressure to post a positive review. This is my honest review ( )

I have had the pleasure of reading previous books written by the talented Claire Eckard. It was great to have the opportunity to get my hands on her newest release, Race Against Time: A Girl, a Pony & the Toughest 100 Mile Race in the World. I thought it was a wonderful book to read. It was full of adventure that made me captivated with Flash and Kyla’s tale. I adored their friendship and trust between the two. It was beautiful to see how human and pony were able to such a perfect team and good role models. The plot is full of inspiration that would be a wonderful influence on the younger readers. I was honored to take this journey along each page. I had no problem reading the whole book in one sitting. It was time well spent on a cool and rainy day.
I am giving Race Against Time: A Girl, a Pony & the Toughest 100 Mile Race in the World five stars. Readers, fans and lovers of horses and equestrian sports, between the ages of nine and fourteen years old, will definitely not want to miss out on reading this one. Once again, I will be looking for more by Claire Eckard in the future.
I received a paperback copy of Race Against Time: A Girl, a Pony & the Toughest 100 Mile Race in the World from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion. ( )
