Pelicans
2. Write the summary of the book.
Pelicans live along ocean coastlines and around inland lakes in most regions of the world. Some pelicans fly long distances to avoid winter. Pelicans are very social birds. They do almost everything together- and that includes flying. When they are flying long distances, or migrating, hundreds of pelicans travel together.
Pelicans are expert fishers. Their beak and pouch are special tools for catching fish. The pouch is stretchy. It can hold just under 10 quarts (9.5 l) of water. A pelican's throat and stomach are expandable, too. When fishing is good, the birds stuff themselves to the brim. Sometimes pelicans eat so much they cannot take off to fly.
3. Write your feelings about the book in details.
Pelicans living in parks or on the coast will use their pouch to catch scraps thrown by humans. But when they are hard, pelicans have been seen eating ducklings and seagulls(See p. 48).
They could eat other birds if necessary.
4. Write the words, phrases or sentences that impressed you most in the book and explain why they impressed you. Or you could write your questions about the book.
The mother and father take turns sitting in the nest with their webbed feet covering the eggs. Because parent's feet are warm, the eggs remain warm(See p. 36).
Not their feather but their feet keep eggs warm to hatch. ( )
