It's not perfect, but it's definitely not bad either. Poppy is utterly bland and kind (she's secretly a poor country bumpkin), and Tora is a troubled bad boy who doesn't eat edge for breakfast. He's afraid of bugs, loves giving Poppy cute pet names, and eats food cut into the shape of animals. Yeah, I like their dynamic. I need to see more of Quincey before I can have an opinion of him, but he's not bad. Poppy's publishing friends are fine too.
This is one of the few mafia/thug life stories I've liked. It's a lil tropey with the good girl meets bad boy/light woman dark man/ civilian meets gangster, but it works well. Thus far, there hasn't been anything really graphic, but it does not shy away from the realities of mafia life, clan fights, drugs, trafficking women, loved ones being put in danger due to the lifestyle, etc. I can't wait until Poppy realizes how deep she has gotten, being connected with Tora. Midnight Poppy Land manages to stay lighthearted through it all, and some of the dialogue is funny.
The artwork is fine. I LOVE that the team/Liludusk is taking advantage of stock photos and 3d modeling. Trust and believe readers won't care that much, so save your drawing hands/wrists! Sometimes, the chins look wonky on everybody, but everything else is great. Love the fashion, different body types, and how BUILT Tora looks haha. ( )
