This is a gorgeously photographed book full of interesting facts about the displays, behaviors, and general information about a wide variety of animals. Among my favorites are the endangered pangolin, the octopuses, and the sea slugs. this is a lovely book, and thanks to library thing for the chance to read and review. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This was a very interesting, as well as very visual, book about many different animals. The facts about them are mainly about agressive or mating displays. Gorgeous photos.I received this from LibraryThing.com for the early review. All nature lovers will enjoy 'Display, Appearance, posture and behaviour in the animal kingdom' by well published science author Steven Parker. The book describes the interesting behaviours of about 100 animals from all areas of the world. Using both informative text and beautiful color pictures for each animal, Parker shows how animals use displays of color, pattern, movement, scent and sound to communicate fears, threats, and mating desires. Of the many animals discussed, I found it interesting that humans were not included, noting our own unique display habits and fads. Though that could be a topic all its own for a future book. This well researched and impeccably illustrated book is of interest to all ages and will make a wonderful addition to any coffee table and library. I give it five stars. Buy one for yourself and another to gift a friend. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. Animals engage in displays for self defense, mating and dominance. Here is a big beautiful “coffee table” book filled with grand and colorful photos of animals from all over the world. Includes close ups of strange and wonderful animals such as the Sarcastic fringehead whose mouth opens to four times its width to attract mates. Great descriptive passages accompany the photo with info on scientific and common name, habitats, diet, etc. An informative and visually stunning book, a welcome addition to any library! 5 stars! Whether for defence or attack, to attract a mate or repel a rival, or to communicate dominance in the group, Display reveals the different ways that nature's most flamboyant creatures use colour, sound, scent and posture to survive in the wild. This photographic collection highlights 100 creatures from around the world paired with insights from zoology author Steve Parker. Ranging from predators such as the snow leopard and American alligator, to the extravagant betta fish and the lesser-known devil's flower mantis and peacock spider, this book reveals the most innovative uses of display in the natural world.
