A group of dark, horrible, excellent stories. To be honest, before I read this book, I thought the writers who came from Japan were the best horrible story maker. But after I read this book, I feel every place every country have it's own great writers who can be called masters. A picture which can change just like the characters are living in it, a inn which has a room that always is locked, or one man feel something but he can never see.The wonderful imagination of the writer introduce us a stange world, which can call up the fear burried deeply in your heart. In fact, I do not like the book pretty much, because the book was consisted of five ghost stories and I am really sick of this kind of stories.
The name of the five short stories are " THE PICTURE" , "RATS" , "CASTING THE RUNES", "THE EXPERIMENT" , AND " OH, WHISTLE, AND I'LL COME TO YOU, MY BOY" . Even through the plots of these stories are great, I am still not interested in them. ( )

This book is made of five ghost stories which I liked it very much, the first story is “the picture”, and this story is talk about Mr. Williams bought a specially picture from Mr. Britnell, but the picture did not have the artist’s name on it, it just have some letters of “--ngly”. So, Mr. Williams and his friends want to find the artist’s name. However, the strange thing is that the picture has changed after a couple of hours later, and it changed of few times. Finally, they fund this picture was draw by Anningly family who last member disappeared mysteriously in1802 .Now, this picture now in the museum; no one saw it change again. The second story is “Rats, this story is talk about Mr. Thomson who from the University of Cambridge went to a small and peaceful inn to study. One day, he suddenly wants to see the four other rooms in the passage. But, one of room which frighten he seriously, because there is one bed in the room, and he can clearly saw the sharp of head and body under the blanket , when he closed the door, he heard the foot steps coming toward the door. A few days later, he wanted to find the answer, but when he went to that room, there was nothing. Unfortunately, he fell down the floor, so the keeper Mr. Betts told he the secret of that room, there are a innkeeper who was a thief, then he died in that room, from then on, that room was locked, if somebody moved the bed which in that, it will have trouble. The third story is “casting the runes”, this story is talk about a bad guy who called Mr. Karswell, he like to gave people a small piece of paper, and used that paper to curse people died, and other people won’t find the reason that caused death. However, in the end the small paper returned to him when he didn’t realize, so he curse himself. The forth story is “the experiment”, this story is talk about one mother and her son want to fund the money that her second husband hidden, they fund a way to called evil and used it to fund the money, but in the end the ghost that they called was the women’s second husband, so you can image the end of story. The last story is “oh, whistle, and I’ll come to you, my boy”, this story is talk about the professor Parkins who don’t believe ghost went for holidays, and then he fund a metal pipe, this evil pipe bought a creature. Even though his golf friend helps him to solve the problem, he became more nervous than used to be, and changed his opinion of ghost. ( )
