For readers familiar with author Dr. Chapin or with the mentors he writes about herein, this book is probably very exciting and motivational. Having no prior knowledge of any of these people, however, I found myself less than enthused. The advice given in Take Care, namely the seven “rituals” Chapin teaches, are essentially common sense practices for general health. It’s not anything new or ground breaking. I appreciate the passion Chapin has for sharing these things with others, and I have no doubt he’s trying to change lives for the better. I just found nothing new within this book. ( )

I liked the design of this book. It is easy to follow. However, it seemed to me to be plain and more of a promotional book than a good read.

Chapin, a chiropractor and wellness expert, identifies seven key rituals that are essential for optimal well-being:

Nourish your body: This includes eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly.
Move your body: Exercise is essential for physical and mental health. Chapin provides tips on how to get started with exercise and develop a sustainable routine.
Breathe deeply: Deep breathing is a simple but powerful way to reduce stress and improve overall well-being. Chapin provides instructions for several breathing exercises that can be practiced anywhere.
Think positively: Positive thinking can have a profound impact on our health and happiness. Chapin teaches readers how to develop a more positive mindset and overcome negative thoughts.
Connect with others: Strong social connections are essential for our well-being. Chapin provides tips on how to build and maintain meaningful relationships.
Give back to others: Helping others is a great way to boost our own happiness and well-being. Chapin shares stories of people who have made a difference in the world and encourages readers to find their own way to give back.
Live in the present moment: Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment without judgment. Chapin teaches readers how to practice mindfulness in their everyday lives.

Written by a doctor and muscuskeletal expert, this book gives guidance on suggested rituals for living your healthiest and most active life.

To do this he worked with 21 health mentors; people who make now make healthy living a priority despite, or perhaps because of, past experiences. He studied their lives, habits and beliefs and found that all 21 practiced these seven specific wellness rituals:

1. Prioritize sleep, rest & recovery
2. Consume healthy fuel
3. Fight for your waistline
4. Move to stay young.
5. Protect your strength
6. Nurture mental fitness
7. Play with purpose

These rituals are explained through the stories of the 21 mentors.

Peppered in their stories are highlighted “Self-Care Reflections” that turn an aspect of the mentor's story into a question on your own life and habits for consideration or put a mentor's good practice into broader context to help the reader integrate it successfully into his own life. A handy journal is provided to readers online to record their reflections. There are other online resources, like videos demonstrating exercises and routines, making this book into a multimedia experience.

Additionally, the science behind each of the rituals is explained in detail. These sections describe the benefits of these rituals and what will happen if you regularly skip them. They then describe how to overcome difficulties and give helpful suggestions on how to accomplish them and make them habitual.

The author ends with his personal story; how he developed and incorporated these 7 rituals into his own life and the differences they made.

This powerful trifecta of inspiring mentor stories, guided self-reflection and scientific facts provides the motivation and the methodology to improve your health and fitness in a very impactful way. It is a well-researched, fully footnoted guideline to your healthiest, happiest self. Highly recommended! ( )

This book loses a lot of credibility when it opens with how he has been "a frontline primary care physician". He is a chiropractor. Insulting to actual primary care physicians. It's a shame, because there are some pieces of advice that could be helpful but I cannot recommend something where someone is misrepresenting themselves so much. ( )

Dr. Chapin is a healthcare professional known for his empathetic approach and commitment to patient education. His methodical approach to complex scientific theories reflects his extensive knowledge and understanding of his field. His dedication is evident in his work, which promotes the empowerment of his readers in their health journey. His contribution to the field of health and wellness is immense, and this book serves as a testament to his profound commitment and expertise. Dr. Dwight Chapin provides a pragmatic roadmap for crafting and upholding a lifestyle that nurtures physical and mental well-being. He effectively uses personal accounts from 21 distinguished professionals to demonstrate diverse strategies for managing wellness amid the daily strains of life. The book is enriched with a myriad of handy tips interspersed throughout its pages. Incorporating even a fraction of these recommendations could lead to a perceptible enhancement in your overall health. For those seeking to enhance their health and wellness, I strongly recommend delving into this incredibly accessible book.
