After the first few chapters, I was ready to put this one down because I was scared about what was coming/being foreshadowed: a total downer, a great loss, children in peril, women in peril.
But I'm so glad I stuck it out, as this one was so much more!
Mind Games, like many Nora Roberts, has a bit of a fantasy/supernatural bent. Love of rural Kentucky shines through.
Yes, there are losses which will make you weepy, but there are also loving family relationships and precious/precocious children who will make you smile and chuckle. And gaming! And lots of descriptive passages about nature and food. Lots of food.
I listened to the audiobook and narrator January LaVoy was once again amazing, embodying female, male, young children, older adults, Kentucky and Virginia voices seamlessly. (
