No publishing date, no ISBN or LCCN This is a student transcript of CFW Walther's Friday evening "Luther Hour" lectures delivered between 9/2/1884 and 11/6/1885. Walther felt it his duty not only to make clear to his students the meaning of the doctrines of the Sacred Scriptures, but also "to talk the doctrine into their hearts" so that as pastors they would be able to "come forward as living witnesses with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power." Walther's Law and Gospel is one of the most practical preaching texts available. The book is a series of lectures delivered to seminary students in 1884-5. C. F. W. Walther (The first president of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod) shows his great love for his students and his concern that they be the best preachers they can be through his insightful comments. He begins with a series of thesis designed with the preacher in mind as a preventative to confusing the proper distinction between law and gospel. Thesis IV sets out Walther's concern. Thesis IV: The true knowledge of the distinction between the Law and the Gospel is not only a glorious light, affording the correct understanding of the entire Holy Scriptures, but without this knowledge Scripture is and remains a sealed book. (Walther, C. F. W., Dau, W. H. T., & Eckhardt, E. (2000). The proper distinction between law and gospel : 39 evening lectures (electronic ed.) (1). Saint Louis: Concordia Publishing House.) Throughout the lectures he deftly lays out the proper distinction with and eye clearly on the preacher and the pulpit. Not only is this book valuable reading for the beginning preacher continues to deliver insight as the mature preacher re-reads the material. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
