Anyone who thinks that in the 40s and 50s people were better behaved and didn't swear should read this play. I was a big fan of Carol Burnett and my great ambition in life was to play her role in "Once Upon a Mattress" (at least that was the great ambition after the one about seeing gooseflesh actually happen). Everyone knew that the tug at her ear was the "AOK" sign to her grandmother, but I was not aware of the importance of her grandmother in her life until I got to play that role in Abbeville, SC. Usually when Michael calls me up and says he has the perfect part for me, it's some housekeeper who comes on and delivers six lines in the third act, but seems to have my name "written all over her." So I figured a nice, small part of the grandmother in the background of Carol's life would suit my lingering taste for theatre and my devotion to an early hero. It turned out to be a huge part and, it seems from the curtain call arranged during final dress, what passes for a lead in this show. By turns funny and tragic, it's a compelling story. It's a shame we had to take all the F-words out of it. No one came to see it anyway. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
