"Sermon on the Mount and the Book of Proverbs ... a more credible basis for management than any book ever written" "Liberalism and legalism are cancers to the Christian faith". "Truly successful people are more critical of themselves than they are of others". Two opposing Worldviews, Man or God at the center, man is good or man is evil. Can knowledge solve all our problems? ( ) My mother-in-law saw Mike Huckabee’s book at the Christian bookstore and immediately thought of me and bought it for me. I finished it in three days. I read things about Mike Huckabee that I never knew. The book revolves around the word “Character”. Huckabee talks about the character that he has and why it’s important to make strides to keep one’s character of utmost importance. The book was written before Huckabee’s public run for Presidential office and gives great background on where he came from, what he believes, and what he feels a Christian-perspective of politics should be! It’s really fantastic and a quick-read! Character Makes a Difference was published as a preparation for Huckabee's bid for president in the 2008 election. It is an updated version of his 1997 book Character is the Issue, with some inclusions from another book Living Beyond Your Lifetime. This book reads like a sermon on the evils of secularism, with special focus on the evils of homosexuality, abortion and drugs. For the general voter in the primary elections and caucuses this book will provide little extra information for you to help your decision making process. If you are a Huckabee supporter, or are thinking seriously about supporting him I would recommend this book. Though from an outsiders perspective it felt a bit to heavy with pandering, insiders will no doubt enjoy reading the insights that have lead Huckabee to his firm stances and deeply rooted convictions. Of course there is some depth within this book about which particular character lessons Huckabee has drawn from his Christianity. Though living the golden rule and striving for prudence are worthwhile endeavors, what is missing from Huckabee and evidenced throughout the book, is his complete and utter aversion to Mill's principle of individual liberty, "That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not sufficient warrant." In opposition to this, Huckabee supports the notion that for the good of the United States, Christianity must be spread throughout its citizenry, government and system of laws. This book is his case for why he believes this. Personally I was not convinced and I doubt many who are not already true believers will be. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
