What the heck was Carl Schurz thinking? Here was a man who knew Lincoln personally and decides to write a book on him. So, what does he do? He writes a 100+ page biography that is little more than a quick one-chapter retelling of Lincoln's life. Not a single personal observartion. Perhaps Schurz wrote another book of personal recollections, I don't know. However this book is nothing more than a short biography that any college student could have written. The page margins were even the wide generous margins that college students like in order to turn that 50 page report into a 100 page report. Geeez, there weren't even any chapters in it. If you can get this book for a couple of buck to add to a collection, fine. But don't spend any kind of money on it if you are actually planning to read it. ( )
