A poor farmer living near the obnoxiously rich squire grows a giant turnip, and presents it to the king. This picture book is blessedly short while still conveying a satisfying tale of comeuppance. One highlight is the farmer's use of an accurately illustrated block-and-tackle to excavate the turnip, so the story could fit in well with a class learning about simple machines. A good read-aloud, or read-along, for early elementary students. Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

The story of two neighbors, each of whom gets their just deserts, The Tale of the Turnip is simply told, and suitable for younger children. It is accompanied by Fritz Wegner's delightful illustrations, in which the highly expressive faces of both man and beast wonderfully convey the humor of the situation. ( )
