In my opinion, this was an excellent book. I liked this book for two reasons. First, I liked the characters in the story. The grandfather was a very interesting character. He was very believable and well-developed because of explanations to his granddaughter. I liked how he told the granddaughter that the wrinkles had happy memories instead of just telling her that they came with his older age. For example, he said that one wrinkle came from the day that he got married to his wife. He said that the wrinkle came out when he smiled very big from being happy. A second thing I liked about this book was the illustrations. The book did a very good job of including helpful illustrations that enhanced the story. One example is when the grandfather tells the granddaughter that his wrinkle comes from his happiness on the day her mother was born. The illustration shows this because on the following two pages, there is a large picture of the mother’s birth. Overall, the big idea of this story is appreciation of life. The grandfather effectively portrays the message that there are many positive things that happen in your life that stick with you for as long as you live. ( )
