Never go out in decent clothes, thus you are ready at all times to crawl around on dirty floors, investigate attics, garages, out-houses and cellars. Turn over every book in the bargain box, every dusty pile in the corner.

Keep your strength up, so that you are fit enough to shift heavy pieces of furniture, mangles, bookcases, etc. Who knows... somewhere behind there may be a large unexplored cupboard bursting with books, untouched by hand for twenty odd years... well, you can dream, can't you?

In a crowded bookshop, you can always recognise the collectors. That's us with the grubby knees, the untidy hair, the jumble sale clothes, worn elbows, and a sort of glazed contented look.
