Lädt ... Births, Deaths Marriages - True Talesvon Georgia Blain
![]() Keine Keine aktuelle Diskussion zu diesem Buch. ![]() ![]() I chose this book because there were three of them on the library shelf - it must be of some worth somewhere for this library to think three of them are necessary. And it is. It is a commentary on lives lived, the complexity, the nuance, the normality and the abnormality of families, the pervasiveness of mental illness, both in society and in the lives of those close to the sufferers. She beautifully captures the guilt of the 'normal' family member. Georgia also is eloquent about writing (strangely) and the life of a writer. And there are lovely reflections about her mother and her life in the public eye, as viewed from her child's standpoint. I got this after listening to an interview where Georgia Blain described growing up with a brother who went mad with schizophrenia, I could so relate to it and it brought back many memories for me, I put it on my must read list straight away. Actually it was not so much about her brother but about her life. The book took a little while to grow on me until I realised the pure genius in writing a book that appears so effortless, I'm sure it wasn't. Just when she seemed to be getting a little self consciously contrived she starts to peel back the process of writing an autobiography in such a disarmingly honest way she really won me over. The blank pages at the end are interesting, the unwritten last chapters reserved for her old age maybe. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

"A brutally honest account of love, marriage, families and death. It wasn't until years later that I realised the obvious - the difference between us and the mythical normal family I was certain existed, was in fact the fiction There is always so much more and it swims, shimmering beneath the surface, glittering with all the inherent contradictions of who we are, the changes that time brings and the very elusiveness of a life slipping through our fingers. Births Deaths Marriage is about life and how we really live it. These true tales move from visits to nudist communes, to losing your virginity; to going to couples' counseling and coping with death in the family. From a bohemian childhood in the seventies to becoming a mother and a writer, Georgia Blain explores a new land - true life in all its extraordinary richness - taking us deep into the heart of how we love, learn, fail, and try to learn again."
