This is a collection of short stories that have some kind of moral lesson or value that it is trying to teach children. Some of the stories are a few pages while others are only a paragraph, so it would be easy to keep children's attention while also teaching them something important. One of the short stories I read in this book was "The Sick Kite." This tells the story of a Kite who is sick and needs help but his mother tells him that no one is going to be able to help him. The gods won't help him because he's only reaching out when he needs help. This story is a good reminder that we should value the people in our lives at all times and not only when we need something from them because this can make them feel unappreciated. This would be a good book to read children because these messages are something we should remember throughout our lives.

This book of Aesop’s familiar tales stands out above others because of the beautiful illustrations by Don Daily, one of my favorite illustrators. The size of the illustrations adds to the beauty of this particular edition. ( )

I really liked this book. While reading it, it felt very nostalgic. My parents used to read me fables before bedtime when I was younger so it was nice to relive them as an adult. They have more meaning and underlying messages that I now realize, reading them 18-20 years later. I really like the structure of this book and how each chapter is a different fable. These fables are classic and memorable, as they have been adapted and retold in various forms. The illustrations in this book are very detailed and beautiful, it really helped visualize the story, even as an adult. The vivid pictures would make for a great read for children. This is a great resource for teaching children morals. The big idea/message of this book is to entertain, while also emphasizing moral concepts through fairytale. ( )

There were many message and morals in this book because it had a variety of fables within it. My favorite one is about the lion and the mouse. One of my favorite things about this book is that it went through different types of morals. Another thing I liked was that it had different characters for each fable. It was not the same type of animal for each. ( )
