Having gone to China this was an interesting take on how China is now..A guy fiorm New Zealand buys a pack of men's underwear for a low price and then wonders how they could be made and sold at such a price. He decided to follow their history back to their starting point. tjis journey takes him to Shanghai and on tothe industrialised and not so industrialised areas of China. Through his time he comes to expereince some of the ways of life and philosophies of China and the Chinese ( ) An interesting read but not particularly gripping. This is just one view of what life is like in China - probably a view that Chinese people wouldn't agree with. When I was reading the book, one of my Chinese colleagues felt offended about the cover. Joe Bennett tells his story in a personable style. Overall I'm glad I've read the book. All cliches that you can scrape everywhere from pages on the Internet put together in a book; you might call that an achievement. Entertaining, but not particularly accurate. Nothing new, and the author is lighthearted about data he wishes to but cannot obtain. Quite a few inaccuracies around in numbers and figures thrown in by the author.
