The Christian in Society is contained in four volumes, 44 through 47 in Luther’s Works. Basically, these are Luther’s writing about how a Christian should act. Volume I contains six documents, including “Treatise on Good Works”, A Sermon on the Estate of Marriage.” In Volume II there are eleven treatises, giving advice and counsel on everyday problems. Volume III contains eight works written between 1525 and 1530. Volume IV contains four treaties where he wrestles “with volatile aspects of the Christian’s ethical attitude toward the governing authorities, toward other Christians who appeared to be teaching incorrect doctrines, and toward the Jews.
