This book has been pegged into the category of 'chick lit'. Too bad - the 'chick' who is the central character is nothing like any woman I know - a shallow, jealous, label obsessed, name dropping, paranoid, selfish woman whose life is miraculously rescued through the love of a brand new group of women friends.

Mia King writes a book that is a super fast read. It does not require much thought and does require a suspension of belief in real life. Maybe that's the purpose of the book - to take the reader completely out of any sense of reality and transport her to a world where problems are quickly solved, character flaws are quickly mended and everyone gets to have a happy ending.

I read the book all the way to the end and I'm glad - there are a number of very good recipes at the end. They earned this book a 2 1/2 star rating from me. ( )

Loved loved loved this book! Its a simple read. Basically starts off with the main character in New York, with her husband and daughter, when the husband lands a job in Hawaii the family is faced with making the decision of dropping everything to move to Hawaii and settle for a different life. Its one of those "things aren't always what they seem" books. The character (the mom) is very strong- willed and thats what I really enjoyed about this book as well as the descriptive settings where this book will take you. Anytime I want to go back to Hawaii I read this book again. ( )

This was my first Mia King book and I really enjoyed it – a good old fashioned chick lit book that made you laugh, cry, etc. It touches on a lot of topics that I think any mother can relate to and even comes with some yummy recipes! ( )

I love Mia King's writing style! She feels fresh, light, and engaging. Sweet Life is a sad, and sometimes anxiety-ridden story, but so good and true to real women. ( )

This is a very enjoyable read --- family moves to Hawaii for husbands job but all is not wonderful as cracks begin to show. Realistic picture of a midlife marriage. The main character struggles with what is best for her daughter, her marriage and herself in a touching, even humorous way. A big step above typical check lit. ( )
