Pounder parts this gloom with his beloved troubadours but then collapses into a wheezing bigotry. I would recommend these essays especially those on Henry James and James Joyce. It places one in an awkward situation. One can also be troubled by remembering a childhood affection or the comedy albums of Bill Cosby. Eliot wrote in his introduction: I hope that this volume will demonstrate that Pound's literary criticism is the most important contemporary criticism of its kind...perhaps the kind we can least afford to do without...the refreshment, the revitalization and `making new' of literature in our time.
