Fiction. Literature. Science Fiction. LGBTQIA+ (Fiction.) One of the quintessential and award-winning novels of the cyberpunk genre returns in a striking new edition. India Carless, alias Trouble, managed to stay one step ahead of the feds until she retired from life as a hacker and settled down to run a small network for an artist's co-op. Now someone has stolen her pseudonym and begun to use it for criminal hacking. So Trouble returns. Once the fastest gun on the electronic frontier, she has been called out of retirement for one last fight. And it's a killer.Less than a hundred years from now, the forces of law and order crack down on the world of the Internet. It is the closing of the frontier. The hip, noir adventurers who got by on wit, bravado, and drugs, who haunt the virtual worlds of the shadows of cyberspace are up against the edges of civilization. It's time to adapt or die."Scott's talents for creating a future both hauntingly familiar and exotically remote are showcased in this feminist cyberpunk romp."â??Publishers Week… (mehr)

3.5/5stars. Vintage cyberpunk/shadowrun originally published in the mid-90s. It held up amazing well and reads as fresh today. ( )

This started out promising, I think Scott is a decent writer. But then it turned into a slog to read. I finished because it's for book club. I am not into Cyper Punk, so that's part of it, but a good story usually pulls me in and this one didn't. ( )

this is well written, but largely out of my scope of interest and understanding. i like the idea that this group of queer people are always in each other's corners, and have created a family within their community. but the techie stuff holds no interest for me so a lot of this book felt dense and hard to get through, and impossible to picture. actually it felt like it would make a good movie, since so much of the book happens "on the nets," in virtual reality, and they could recreate her vision so that everyone could understand it. overall this is fine - the story is interesting and the characters are fun; it's just not really my thing. i think tech people would probably think this is great. Good cyberpunk. It's more of a fun adventure than a deep, analyzing society kinda book, but I enjoyed reading it twice.... ( )
