Genre: Biography. This book is based on a real story about a some guys who found the range and wrote a song about it.
Media: Watercolor and pencil
Uses: I would use this when we talked about the history of the U.S. When farming and having cattle was a big thing. Besides that I don't know when I would use it. Maybe just as a fun book. Everyone should hear Home on the Range!

Review: This book is all about the man who discovered the song Home on the Range. He was an average boy who heard Cowboys on the range singing their cows to sleep. The songs he heard told a story about the people that sang them. The book is a story of his life with the songs he collected intermixed. It was a story that didn't only tell about someone but also showed it.

Uses: I would use this to teach about different eras and the way of life other people had. I think that this would also be great book to read when studying the era.

Genre: Biography- Written about a real man who dicovered the song home on the range, along with many other cowboy songs.
Media: Pencil and water color

Another outstanding biography from Deborah Hopkinson, this one focused on the life of John Lomax, the collector of American folk music before the thought was popular. This also accounts for historical descrepancy regarding a tumultuous event in his early life in which he burned his entire childhood collection of fold music. I loved this book. It was very impressive and the illustrations were beautiful as well. ( )
