Fiction. Western. Thriller. Historical Fiction. Smoke Jensen is the most powerful man on the Sugarloaf frontier-and he's all that stands between a greedy group of Eastern slickers and their schemes for a criminal empire in the Rockies. When Smoke heads back to Boston with his wife, it gives his enemies the opening they'd been waiting for: to kill the mountain man and take over the West. But even on the unfamiliar turf of back alleys and teeming docks, Smoke is more than most men can handle . . . until his wife is kidnapped. Now Smoke is in a fury and in this fight all the way from Boston back to Dodge City and up to Yellowstone, where a brutal showdown with a gang of hired guns awaits . . . and where, in a blazing hail of bullets and blood, the legend of the big man is about to grow even bigger . . . They called him fastest gun alive, but Smoke Jensen is determined to stay on the right side of the law. That is, until he's jumped by six low-life robbers who steal his shirt-and his identity. Smoke's tried for robbery and murder, and sentenced to hang in morning. Someone's out to frame the Mountain Man . . . someone who's made a big mistake. Contains mature themes.… (mehr)

Title: Rage of the Mountain Man (Mountain Man #13)
Author: William W Johnstone
Year: 2010
Publisher: Pinnacle
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
What a fantastic tale awaits those who dare to read a Smoke Jensen novel! Smoke Jensen is married to Sally, and together they run the Sugarloaf Ranch. Smoke is known as the last mountain man as he knows the ways of surviving and thriving on the high lonesome. Preacher taught Smoke how to live, track a man or move among his enemies without making a noise. Smoke will need all his cunning and skills to ward off a group of men who want to take what is his and to take care what of those he loves.
Sally is from the East, a former schoolteacher who loves her man and will put aside her tenderness when anyone comes to do harm. Sally was taught by Smoke how to handle a gun, ride a horse or run the ranch when he isn’t home. However, when Smoke is home, her attention and affection is poured out on this mountain of a man.
As winter seems to be ending, Sally wishes to go East to see family. Of course, it is the last place Smoke wants visit! However, because he loves Sally, he agrees to go back for a visit. While there, his father-in-law made advance arrangements for Smoke to go on a tour and tell others about his life. What he didn’t count on was the growing threats to Smoke and Sally while on tour, nor did he know of the growing threat to their rancher friends back home. When Smoke learns about what is happening, he hightails it back home to face the threat with Sally at his side, even though he wants her to stay in the East until the smoke clears.
What readers will find in the novel is nonstop action and adventure! The West isn’t tame yet and men are on the prowl to attack and steal in order to build an empire they alone will rule. The head of the gang that is coming after the Sugarloaf and his neighbors has an interesting connection to an adversary Smoke has faced in the past. So, saddle up and join the wild action that takes place in the pages, along with romance that will warm your heart!
