Absolutely LOVED this book. It is very funny and slick and reminded me a lot of Louis Sachar at his best. At less than 150 pages, with very short chapters, it is an ideal book for boys. Marcus is woken in the middle of the night by a mangy dog that has just dumped a big pile of steaming poo on his chest! Bad enough, you might say, but it gets worse when he realizes he can hear the dog's thoughts and Marcus is told that he must rescue God ( a pygmy bearded dragon ) from the local pet shop. The idea of whether God is just a lizard or is actually God are left up to the reader, but Jonsberg handles the religious side very carefully. The conversations Marcus has with Blacky ( the very sarcastic dog), his best mate Dylan (I don't have ADD or ADHD; I have DAD - Dumb as Dogpoo), his sadistic sister Rose ( any excuse to flush his head down the toilet) and his deaf neighbour Mrs. Bird ( How are you? A quarter past 3.) had me laughing out loud. I went and read them to my son, they were so funny! p.9-12 Blacky turns up while Marcus is walking to school. Also the way in which Dylan gets the school closed for a day and raises more cash to buy God is also hilarious! ( )
