But given the limitations of the form and genre, they're rather unsatisfying as stories. The first few are extremely simplistic - action puppets. Later on they began to have some character development, both within a single episode and across episodes. The last few, never-aired and multi-part episodes, however, go back to the more simplistic mode - the action is richer since it extends over two or more 15-minute episodes, but aside from the stylized squabbling of Monk and Ham, there's not much to them except the straight action. Oddly enough, the first script is based on the first Doc Savage book, and then the same story is retold in one of the last scripts, with slight variations. Overall, mildly interesting, but I find the Doc Savage novels a bit thin - these don't have enough to them to hold my interest. The Cystex ads in the intros were interesting as examples of period advertising, though. ( ) keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Doc Savage is a physician, surgeon, scientist, adventurer, inventor, explorer, researcher, and musician -- a renaissance man. A team ofscientists (assembled by his father) trained his mind and body tonear-superhuman abilities almost from birth, giving him great strength andendurance, a photographic memory, mastery of the martial arts and vast knowledgeof the sciences. Dent described the hero as a mix of Sherlock Holmes' deductiveabilities, Tarzan's outstanding physical abilities, Craig Kennedy's scientificeducation, and Abraham Lincoln's goodness. Lester Dent, a serious man ofadventure himself, contributed to the legendary Black Mask Magazine somehard boiled/noir crime tales as well. This edition sports a cover by the alsolegendary Doc Savage cover artist Bob Larkin! Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
