Review: This book shows a good example of poetry because it follows a rhyme form and also includes correct meter. The subject is about a bird that explains to an ant how long a string can be for different scenarios. Style: Since this story is a story in rhyme, the author uses rhythm within the writing, which is the beat or cadence to a story or poem. This particular story is set up so that every other line rhymes. Level: Primary Age Appropriateness: Primary Genre: Fantasy Review: This was a good example of fantasy, because an ant and bird are experimenting as to what they can do with a long string. The two animals also talk in the story; which is something animals cannot do in real life. Comments: -Split students into small groups and give them long string and have them experiment like the bird and ant, as to what they can do with a long string. -Talk about why a bird would use string and talk about birds in general. Character Development: The bird is the main character/protagonist, because the book is about the bird and how she is experimenting with the string. The ant is the foil character, because the ant supports the bird's character and asks her questions about the string. Media: Charcoal Zeige 4 von 4 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Recommended in a recent issue of The Horn Book Magazine, Just How Long Can A String Be?! is an engaging picture-book, with a playful tone and appealing pastel illustrations. I'm not sure that I am convinced by the assertion, on the front flap of the dust-jacket, that Baker's title will help young readers to break down large problems. But it definitely does communicate the idea that sometimes there is more than one answer to a question. ( )
