This is a book about a young boy who wishes he could have lived a thousand years ago. He talks about how he would be the squire for the bravest night. He would shine his armor and sharpen his sword. They would save the kingdom and defeat the dragon. In the end when the boy and knight go and fight the troll the knight never returns and the boy must face the troll. He then realizes he is glad he doesn't live a thousand years ago. This is a fiction book with a moral being happy with what you have and where you are. This is a great book about imagination and where it can take us. ( )

44 months - What you'd expect from Mercer Mayer, good story, imaginative, nicely illustrated... but missing that something to make me want to read it over and over again or buy it. ( )

Summary: "The Bravest Knight" is a fictional story about a boy who imagines what it would have been like if he had lived a thousand years ago. With each turning page, the boy describes the kind of adventures he would go on as squire for the bravest knight in the kingdom. Towards the end, the boy imagines what it would be like to save the kingdom from a terrible tour. The young boy and knight await, and cower in fear at the first sight of the troll. The story returns to present day with the young boy stating, "I'm glad I don't live a thousand years ago".

Review: This book is a remake of the original story, published over 40 years ago. With this new version comes beautiful designed illustrations that match perfectly with the little boy's vivid imagination. Each page was easy to read and I found myself smiling at certain parts, such as when the boy and knight ran away from the evil troll at the end of the story. This is a great read for young readers in the classroom! ( )

I really liked this book for the illustrations. Mercer Mayer did a great job of illustrating the magical land and showing the reader what the main character was doing. The picture were colorful and really helped push the story along. This was a cute story as well. For example, in the end of the story after the boy has gone on this long adventure, he finally comes to battle the Troll. After the first knight doesn’t come out of the Troll’s cave the little boy is shown in his backyard again. He says, “I’m glad I didn’t live a thousand years ago.” This was a cute ending because the reader was able to get a sense that the boy was afraid and it reminded the reader that this was still just a story and it wasn’t actually happening. The big idea of this story was that it is good to use your imagination. ( )
