A NATO request for military assistance to Canada thrusts a U.S. Army 10th Mountain light infantry task force behind Quebec provincial lines on a moment's notice. Mission objective: take the airport and bridges and then allow the Canadian Army to pass through their positions. It was supposed to be a permissive spearhead insertion into the St. Lawrence port city of Trois Rivieres, aimed at bringing the breakaway province of Quebec back to negotiations in resolving its claim of secession from Canada. Instead, the American infantry unit is drawn into a violent urban battle with a column of main battle tanks from the revolutionary Quebec Defense Force, a force that is clandestinely supported by France. Follow the soldiers on both sides of the conflict as they battle not only each other, but also deadly setbacks, hasty decisions, and emotional challenges all in the literal fog of this action-packed, street-to-street, combat thriller.… (mehr)

By Gene Conrad, Berkshire, NY: "I couldn't put it down. Absolutely one of the best military fiction books I've ever read! The action is fast and the author paints a vivid picture of the combat sequences in the reader's mind. I felt like I'd have to wash the blood spatter off after the battle sequence was over. The character developement doesn't get cumbersome but still nails enough of each player's background so the reader can relate to them as actually "knowing" them. I highly recommend the book and look forward to the author's next work."

By Jim Wheeler, Assistant Dean of Johnson Community College: Michael Karpovage has demonstrated that virtual reality can be generated with the published word. The reader of Flashpoint Quebec is quickly drawn into the political arena by Mike’s succinct writing. The use of excerpts from printed and broadcast media provides the reader with the background necessary to enter the situation quickly and become part of the exciting, suspenseful, and plausible adventure of Flashpoint Quebec. It is evident that the author spent much time in preparation for this novel: the inclusion of an existing military unit with appropriate acronyms and jargon; the use of modern urban warfare strategies; the accurate historical references to people and geography; and a realistic reference to the strained relationships between the US and Canada. Blend the factual references with the emotions of almost-real characters, sprinkle with a dash of imagination, and you will find that Flashpoint Quebec is a book hard to set down.

By LTC Mike Merola (U.S. Army retired): Michael Karpovage, new to the military action genre, nails it in his first attempt. Flashpoint Quebec blends the technology with the tactics and puts them to play masterfully in this action-packed read. Set in contemporary times, focused on real issues of the day, Flashpoint takes the reader on a whirlwind ride exploring the fabric of the men who make up our modern day military. A must read for military enthusiasts and those who simply enjoy action. Not since Harold Coyle's Sword Point has a new author of military fiction nailed it as well as Karpovage.

By CW3 John Robinson - U.S. Army: "The combat scenes were tremendous! You really captured the intensity. The sniper sequence was shocking."

By James Mascaro - Boca Raton, FL: "Very impressive read. An awesome book. I must say I enjoyed the descriptive scenes during battle the most. You painted quite a visual for the reader. It also reminded me a lot about Black Hawk Down. Mind you I never read the book, I only saw the movie - but the similarities are hard to miss. I really liked how time was depicted. It made the scenes easier to follow as you read about each event from both sides separately. You really did your homework didn't you? Obviously I am not military fanatic, but the detail you provided about weapons, history, and prior conflicts is impressive. I think it makes the story that much more interesting."

By Philip Hunter - Ottawa, Canada: "It was a captivating read from start to finish. I would definitely recommend this book."

By Mike Bobbitt - Ottawa, Canada: "I've read it as well, and thought it was entertaining and well written. There's not a lot of time setting up the intrigue which is fine by me. It jumps in the action quickly, and then follows several units through their run of battle luck, good and bad.

By Thomas K. - Buffalo, NY: "Read this in three days. Couldn't put it down."

By Casey Stevens of 870 AM Talk Radio - Ithaca, NY: "Fascinating."

By Peter V. - Dryden, NY: "This book rocks! I was looking for something fresh and I stumbled upon this new author. Karpovage manages to create a storyline that will keep you on the edge of your seat - the beauty is that he spins a realistic scenario that doesn't push the limits of absurdity. I wish more authors would realize it's possible to create tension and a suspenseful story without burying the reader with pages and pages of details that mark it hard to read straight through. Karpovage hits the mark - you won't want to put this book down and you won't have to. While his style is reminiscent of Clancy, Coyle, Bond, Peters and the like, his style is very readable. If you like those authors, I guarantee you'll love this new guy.

By Kristin - Atlanta, GA: "I just finished your book last night, that was an awesome book! The combat was intense. When you started writing about the beginning of the actual combat, I didn't want to put it down cause I wanted to know how everything was going to play out." ( )
