This is a story about a teacher's first day teaching, and I thought it was really nice. Unlike many picture books, this book is broken up into different parts. It starts off with the title "Worries", and then proceeds to "First Lesson", and so on. All of these parts make up the entire component of the story, and I initially thought this was a book of poetry, but it is not.
This can be used as a writing model to show students the different ways they can write. Each of their writings can have titles, dialogue, even italics! ( )

Tomorrow is Mr. Ouchy’s first day of school and he is very nervous about it. He is worried about if his students will like him or if he will be able to remember his student’s names. His students have many question from how he got his name, how long a minute is and ending with what they wanted to learn this school year. The student’s response range from whistling, playing the drums, and swinging on trapeze. When he gets home he talks to his mom about how his first day of school went and then falls asleep. The genre of this book is realistic fiction.

This book is an excellent book for a first year teacher to read to their children on the first day of class. This book is told from the perspective of teacher starting their first day in a classroom as a teacher. The first few pages the teacher is explaining to the students how even a teacher becomes nervous on the first day of school. This book I relatable to children of all ages and teachers of all ages because everyone has a sense of nervousness on the first day of class. As the book comes to an end, the teacher asks his students what they want to learn in the classroom throughout the year. The children responded with answers such as, walking on a trapeze and learning how to make doughnuts. The book ends with the teacher reading books on how to accomplish these goals over the course of their class. I would read this book starting from age pre-k and continuing through the second grade. Even through the language in this book is somewhat a simple read for second graders, I believe that the students will be able to relate to this story as well as the teacher. ( )
