Looks at the ambivalence toward authority among Quaker youth, the need for common experiences of depth, and ways of encouraging more inspired ministry. This pamphlet was written in 1995--which doesn't seem that distant to 2017--but seems to be from a past generation. This is good for the RSoF, I think, but was disappointing to me personally! I was looking for a pamphlet that would encourage leadership, that would show the way to encourage everyone sitting on the benches. This is a pamphlet with a challenge, articulating a concern for Quaker renewal and asking us what our vision is for our meetings and for the Society of Friends. He asserts that we lack real vision, as a Society, and we do not encourage the development or expression of such visions, which can only lead to our decline. Our avoidance of conflict and our overbalanced emphasis on consensual leadership rather than visionary leadership seem to be prime sources for this. He has several suggestions, including a process for exploring and encouraging visioning in meetings. His suggestion for encouraging preparation for vocal ministry in Meeting for Worship reflects a traditional deep concern and practice for nurturance of ministry. His specific suggestions for innovation may or may not be helpful; rather it may be by delving deeper into Quaker experience and process that we can respond with reinvigoration and renewal.
