Siobhan Macquire, Sam to her friends, just wanted to get out of the muck and what was soon becoming a bog with all the rain and find a way back home. The heir to the Seagram’s whiskey empire had had enough of the Scottish countryside and enough of her so called boyfriend. Her trip to Scotland was definitely not what she expected when she and her loser boyfriend came here weeks ago. Seeing a stranger walk towards her she at least thought she might have some help which would be especially nice after escaping the strange lightning that almost hit her several times.
Angus McTavish had no idea who would be walking through the bog in this kind of weather but he didn’t expect a lass dressed in strange but revealing breeches. What had made it worse was that something had addled the lass’s head so she was talking about strange villages he had never heard of, something called a cell phone and an Irish whiskey she had expected him to imbibe in.
Sam’s blunt reactions and descriptions of her situation make Angus and his clan a little wary of the stranger but his Druid nature gives him a perspective others do not. There is a good chance she was telling the truth and that she could return to where she came from. But does she want to and will the ghost haunting their dreams help or hinder their decisions?
A very quick read that left me wanting more. Sam and Angus were very compelling characters that immediately formed a connection that drew them together despite their very different pasts. I was left a little bereft by this story only because of its brevity. Is it too much to ask if Ms. Gimpel would take this short novella and run with it, expanding the world and giving us more of Sam and Angus’ story? ( )
