This is a very cultural story, that show s the relationship between a young girl and the river. The river is a part of her and she has respect for what the river does for her. This is book in my opinion would be a better read for 3rd grade and higher, to allow students to reflect on aspects in their life in which they could relate to the main character (ie. what in your life makes you feel as passionate as the river makes the main character feel?). I would use this book in my classroom for that reason, and also to present a different cultures of authors to my students Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

In this Multicultural book by Maya Christina Gonzalez we get to see a little girl describe her relationship with the river in both English and Spanish. In the girl’s eyes the river takes care of her and she takes care of it. The river keeps her smiling reflection, it sings her name in the rushing waters and cools her off when she jumps in.
Personal Reflection
I believe that this is a great multicultural book for children. It tells the story in two different languages and features an ethnic girl as the main character. Throughout the whole story. I loved reading about the girl comparing the river to herself and I think this is an amazing book for children.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Have students write about something they have a close relationship with, like the girl in the river.
2. Students could talk about a river or body of water they like.
3. Students could draw their own river and compare it tp themselves like the girl does with her river. ( )
