I recently saw the twining process at a farmer/handcraft market in Lincoln City, OR and was enthralled. I'd love to make some rugs but with arthritis in my hands stitching braided rugs or even doing locker hooking was nearly impossible. I bought a loom right then and there and then ordered this and another book by Bobbie Irwin. I am excited to add to my textile experiences and to find a project I can do in the winter while watching TV with my husband. She has great examples of how to do a variety of projects which I hope to attempt once I get the basic techniques mastered. The most difficult part is making the turns at each end. '''''''';/ ( ) As a textile enthusiast, I was thrilled to read that this author has revived the ancient art of twining. By the end, however, I was unconvinced that I should take it up. Irwin does not make the case well for twining's superiority to the better-known craft of braiding, and in particular does not overcome the obstacle of the large pegged forms needed for most twining projects. Braiding at least can be accomplished with little more than heavy thread and a stout needle. So, I am pleased with Irwin's work for historicity's sake, but found the book less than inspirational.
