This is a story of people hesitating about doing what they've been longing to do, and thereby prolonging the story. Cable and Bishop continue to duke it out across time, and Hope ages and encounters someone else to care about. The art is somewhat inconsistent; Hope's age isn't always clearly portrayed, and the progression of the techno-organic virus makes no sense. In all, I found it ok, but not really more than that. ( )

If I could title my review, it'd be "In Which Cable Jumps the Shark, Both Literally and Figuratively."

Okay, so I've put up with this "the only thing Cable is good for is being a nanny to the mutant messiah" plot line, if you can call it that, for a year and a half now, and I'm getting really sick of it. The same stuff that happened in the previous issues happens here yet again: Bishop is crazy and Cable needs to save Hope from Bishop and other threats.

So Messiah Complex is over. Once again they timeslide into the future, except Cable and Hope get separated by a couple of years, because Hope is being a brat (oh I know that's a big surprise there). The planet is dying (still) and Bishop is after Hope (still) and Cable needs to go rescue her (again). But finally Cable decides, once they're reunited - hey, you know, this timesliding stuff really hasn't worked all that well for us at any point; maybe I should try something new. And so he decides to basically hijack a ship to take them into outer space. I have no idea where their destination was - Cable doesn't seem to know either - and the whole thing just feels more than a little ridiculous. And then the Brood shows up, and the intergalactic sharks. Oh yes, the sharks. I told you that I meant it literally!

The art is okay. Two different artists worked on this trade, Paul Gulacy and Gabriel Guzman. I prefer Gulacy slightly, mainly because his art looks a little more realistic, although he as some perspective problems at times.

I love Cable, but I really don't like what has been done to him recently, and I'm kind of glad that his solo series will be over soon if this is all that they are capable of doing with the character. ( )
