I always found weather to be very interesting. Before deciding to become a teacher I wanted to be a weather person. I thought it would be so interesting to see the storm up close and personal. I wanted to help give people a better piece of mind about storms, and be apart of a team that would let the community know about what was coming. I found this book to be very informational and interesting.
Classroom Extension 1: As a class we would make a tornado in a jar. We would discuss what makes the tornado and why it takes the spinning motion to cause a tornado.
Classroom Extension 2: We would write up a weather safety plan as a class. We would make a guide line for what we would do as a class during a storm.
Homework Idea: I would ask the students to make a weather plan with their families. I would ask them to describe what they would do in times of bad weather. I would also ask them to tell where they would go inside or outside of their house. I would have them share their plan in class. (
