Leigh is working late at her second job, helping the veterinarian at the zoo, when she stumbles upon murder -- and quickly winds up as prime suspect. I don't know why, but this little mystery really drew me in. I normally dislike the "protagonist falsely accused of crime" plot, but I tolerated it well in this book. I like Leigh and her cat, and her family and friends. This was just what I needed in the stressful closing days of the semester. January 6, 2000 Never Sorry Edie Claire Since I enjoyed Edie Claire’s first novel (Never Buried) so much, I was eager to pick up her second. Leigh Koslow is a fairly refreshing protagonist, though not quite as refreshing as she was in the first book. Also, I think I enjoyed Never Buried more because of the setting: poor relation (Leigh) staying with her rich cousin and best friend (Cara) in a big house. I love big houses and rich cousins! …And of course, the story itself in Never Buried was irresistible for its sheer audacity – a dead, long-embalmed body of a strange man turning up in the backyard hammock. It just doesn’t get any stranger than that, really. Anyway, this time Leigh is working part-time in a zoo, where the veterinarian is a guy she had a massive crush on as a teenager when he worked for Leigh’s father (also a vet). Well, one of the animal handlers is found dead, her leg in one of the tiger’s mouths. She was an old archenemy of Leigh’s from high school, as well as an ex-lover of Mike’s (the vet), and both Leigh and Mike are prime suspects. Leigh knows she didn’t do it, but she’s not so sure about Mike. The recurring characters, like Mo (Maureen), Leigh’s large policewoman cousin; Warren, Leigh’s college-days friend and best buddy; Leigh’s overbearing mother and easygoing father, are refreshing and fun to meet up with again. I do like the series and will continue to read them as they come out. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

While getting her new advertising business, Hook, Inc, up and running, Leigh takes a part time job at the zoo to pay her rent and buy food. She finds herself working with her teenage crush, Dr Mike Tanner - a veterinarian who worked with her father to gain graduate experience - and her home room seat buddy, Carmen Koslow (no relation). And then an arm is found in the tiger cage and Leigh suddenly finds herself in the middle of a murder.
The second book was a fast paced action packed read. The action was good and kept me on the edge of my seat. The romance made me want to scream. Leigh's crush on Mike was cringeworthy. I didn't get it at all. But to be honest, I didn't really get or like what the hell was going on with Warren either. I mean I can guess where it's going - but I didn't love it. That said, the mystery part of these books is fantastic - as is the friendship. Maura and Warren and Leigh are total BFFs and I love the total supportiveness they all have for one another. And Cara and Gil as well.
Maura was legendary in this. I love her no nonsense attitude and the lengths she goes to to protect Leigh from herself. Although as much as Leigh can annoy me I will say I did like that she sees Maura all stressed and tired from looking after her mother and volunteers the keys to her apartment to let her rest and to stay and watch Mary. I mean it was a master stroke of luck for her as well, (
The twist was interesting and I didn't quite see it coming. Overall it was a strong, well written mystery with lots of humour and heart. 4 stars. ( )
