Deron and his mum get ready for his first day at a Ghanaian nursery school. I enjoyed this book because I learned new cultures and was able to read about Deron first day of school. ( )

This is about a young boy who is going to start nursery school in Africa. This book has actual photographs rather than illustrations. This was a true story about a mother who was preparing her son for the first day of nursery school. First it started with introducing his family then moved into how mom was preparing Deron for school then it explained the day at the nursery school. Everything was explained in a chronological order. The text was simple and short. There were not any new words to learn just simple sentence structure. The meaning of this text was to show how similar yet different every child's childhood and preparation is for nursery school. ( )

I liked this book because of the real-life images, directly relating to Deron’s life. I feel like the text in the book is very short, almost like it is choppy. I feel like for a young child, the choppy sense of writing is helpful for children who are learning to read fluently. I do not think that the book flows well from page to page. The characters are well believed, as we read about a little boy names Deron who has his first day of nursery school. Deron’s mom is very believable, because she is very worrisome, just as any other mother would be when their child is going to school for the first time. I think this book is engaging, for example, I am eager to learn how his first day at nursery school goes. ( )

I felt this story was not that great. I felt that the story concept was interesting but the book was a little boring. The story was about a little boy in Ghana who was going to his first day of preschool. The author used real photographs of the children as the illustrations to show their culture and experiences. The author also used short and simple language. The author used phrases like “This is Deron. Deron is four.” As well as interactive language such as “ can you spot Deron?” The big message of this story is that even though he lives in a different country Deron still does everything that kids here do to prepare for their first day of school. This book tells a story of how Deron goes to nursery school. It explains how he gets ready in the morning.
