The movie was kinda choppy, hence I decided to read the book. Was still an awesome story and still made me bawl at the end. ( ) This novel reads like a non-fiction book about a young boy inspired through his late father's letters to God to write his own letters to God when he finds himself faced with a life-threatening illness. While the boy's childlike faith might strike some as contrived or unlikely, I have seen this kind of faith and courage in youngsters in real life, as well as the very realistic reactions of the older brother who feels abandoned and the mom who cannot comprehend why double tragedy would enter her life. Perhaps my favorite part of the book, though, was the uncharacteristic compassion and insight provided the boy by the grandfather of his best friend. A quick read, this one's a winner. He turns his suffering into spiritual lessons for his widowed mother, his embittered adolescent brother, and a troubled postman. Letters to God probes some of the most important and most-often-asked questions that trouble people of faith: "Why do we suffer?" "Where is God?" "Why do godly, faithful children have to battle cancer?" This inspiring story of hope will help people from all walks work toward greater understanding of God's presence and care.
