Nothing seems to make him happy. He whines if he can't be the boss when playing games with his sister. He even whines because he thinks his sister gets more soup than he does at dinner time. Peter throws tantrums and makes terrible whining noises. Finally, his mother makes him take a nap. Peter remembers his mother telling him about the Whimper-Whineys who will find him if he doesn't start being happy. While Peter is napping he awakes, not sure if he is dreaming, in a strange and unfamiliar place. Something has a hold of him. It's a Whimper-Whiney and he shows Peter their world. This does not make Peter happy at all. He wants to go home and not become a Whimper-Whiney. Cannon has created a world with Whimper-Whineys who are very creepy clown like characters. If you want to frighten your child into better behavior this is the book for you. Young readers will visit the land of these creatures and vow never to be a candidate for the Whimper-Whineys. Soft colored illustrations show readers what it would be like if they were in Peter's shoes. Book Title: "Peter and the Whimper Whineys” Author: Sherrill S. Cannon Published By: Strategic Book Publishing Age Recommended: 3+ Reviewed By: Kitty Bullard Raven Rating: 5 Review: Yet another fantastic winner of a book from Sherrill S. Cannon. Her stories are written in such a way that children will not only learn from them but love them! Peter and the Whimper Whineys is a beautiful, adventurous and colorful book that retells a timeless story once told by Sherrill’s own mother. The dedication is beautiful and makes us realize just how very special mothers are. This story teaches children that whining constantly is not only unattractive but can have some very serious repercussions in a cute delightful, light-hearted way that will have them smiling but also teach them a valuable lesson. Sherrill S. Cannon, I cannot praise you enough for your amazing ability to turn phrase into a whimsical wonderland that children will adore. These books are destined to become a classic in any home. Sherrill S. Cannon is a modern-day Dr. Seuss! I adore her and LOVE her books! After hearing Peter whine and cry all day about everything and everyone, meaning his little sister, Mom sends Peter to bed early with a warning. Peter must stop whining and crying, or the Whimper-Whineys will take him deep in the forest to Whimper-Whineland. When Peter hears a noise outside and goes to check it out, and old man who looked like he had just finished crying found him. If this sad, old guy is a Whimper-Whiney, Pete will be off to Whimper-Whineland. Do you think Peter will like living in Whimper-Whineland or try to get back home? The Kalparta illustrators did a wonderful job capturing the look of the whimper-whineys, their home deep in the woods, and Peter’s home, which drastically contrasted the whiner’s home. Ms. Cannon again writes in rhyme. The words will easily roll off a reader’s tongue and sound whimsical to those listening. This is a good book for classrooms in schools and those in homes. There is not a word of preaching or moralizing. Kids will get the message in an easy and fun way, a way which will help them remember the message and apply what they have learned. Ms. Cannon is a retired teacher. All those years of reading stories to her students might have helped be the wonderful writer she is today. I am surprised this story did not win any awards when it came out in 2010. Note: received from author Zeige 4 von 4 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Peter's mother warns him that if he cannot stop whining and crying, he'll have to go live with the Whimper-Whineys. He hops into the woods and finds lots of frightening Whimper-Whineymen who are very ill-mannered and rude. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Peter’s mother had often told him if he did not stop his behavior, he would end up in the Land of the Whimper-Whineys. Is there really such a place?Peter did not believe there was until he found himself there.
This is a cute, rhyming story. It is great for ages 2 to 8. It is also a good practice book for slightly advanced children’s reading. The illustrations, by Kalpart, are done well but it isn’t their best work. I realize the darkened pages were done for effect, but it was a little too much. Sherrill’s story was very good, yet not her best either. The rhyming at times didn’t “flow”well. It felt a little awkward.
The Key Point: It is a great story to encourage a more positive behavior in children. (Many adults could benefit as well.)
My review of this book gives it a solid Four 1/2 Stars rating.
